Organizations We Love

Health Care Foundation

The Healthcare Foundation is an advocate for health in our community.  It embodies the desire to make a difference, to have an true impact on the health of our community.  I couldn’t help but be drawn to this organization and am impressed by the generosity and compassion of so many in our community.

“It feels good to be a board member of an organization that works so hard in the community on as important a cause as health for everyone.”

Surmang Foundation

Dr. Kimbro had the privilege of sharing her skills and training with a group of doctors and local women in a Tibetan village where the infant mortality rate was among one of the highest.  While there, she visited with the community health workers in the village discussing the challenges of delivering babies and managing possible problems. It was an experience that deeply moved her knowing her time there would help save lives well after she left.

“It was a rewarding experience and an extremely worthy cause and I look forward to doing it again soon.”

The Surmang Foundation was founded by an American man, a Buddhist, Lee Weingrad.  He was mentored by a Buddhist monk who was from Surmang and quickly the two became friends.  Before the monk died, he asked his friend to visit Surmang one day. Lee did, and in 1987 he encountered a Monastic community of Buddhist monks and nuns that supported an isolated series of villages of traditional Tibetan herders and farmers.   Lee learned that the maternal and neonatal mortality rate was calculated as one of the highest in the world because of it’s remoteness and lack of medical services.  He considered what he could do to help these people in this beautiful and wounded place and his answer, to bring quality medical care and the foundation and clinic was created.

Currently, the Foundation invites international doctors to Surmang to help the Tibetan doctors keep up to date with healthcare advances and provide relief to those who rarely find themselves not on duty.

MiddlesexMD

MiddlesexMD is a wonderful resource that we love to share with our patients and friends!

Founded by Dr. Barb DePree, M.D., a gynecologist and women’s health provider for almost 30 years and a menopause care specialist for the past ten. She was named the 2013 Certified Menopause Practitioner of the Year by the North American Menopause Society for “exceptional contributions” to menopause care. In particular, the award recognized the outreach, communication and education she does through MiddlesexMD and her work as director of the Women’s Midlife Services at Holland Hospital, Holland, Michigan.

She founded MiddlesexMD, to share practice-tested, clinically sound information with women her age. They provide information and guides for working with your partner and caregivers and offer products that will help each of us to work with the physical changes we are experiencing. Together, it’s a recipe for good sex at menopause and beyond.
